Why Endurance

Six reasons Cornish homeowners pick Endurance over other composite brands.

48mm 17-layer solid timber core

Engineered laminated hardwood — dimensionally more stable than foam-filled composite doors, and immune to the twist that plagues cheap timber.

ABS 3-star cylinder as standard

Ultimate 3 Star anti-snap, anti-bump, anti-pick cylinder fitted on every door — exceeds TS007 3-star and matches Secured by Design.

PAS24:2016 tested

Every doorset is factory-tested for physical attack resistance — meeting UK insurer and Building Regs Approved Document Q.

10-year manufacturer guarantee

Colour, slab, hardware and sealed glass units all covered for a decade — backed by our own 10-year written fit guarantee.

1.4 W/m²K U-value

Warm-edge spacer bars, argon-filled 28mm units and a solid core deliver thermal performance well beyond Part L.

Marine-grade coastal spec

Stainless-steel hinges, letterplate springs and cylinder cams for any home within 3 miles of Cornwall's coast — no rusting furniture.

What actually is an Endurance door?

An Endurance composite door is a 48mm-thick engineered doorset made from 17 layers of laminated hardwood, wrapped in a moulded GRP (glass-reinforced polyester) skin and finished with the paint-effect grain of a traditional timber door. It ships as a complete doorset — slab, frame, cill, hinges, letterplate, handle set, spyhole and locking cylinder — factory-glazed and factory-locked so nothing is bodged on site. That is why Endurance is specified so heavily by architects, social housing providers and Cornwall custom-build clients: it arrives correct.

Where cheaper composite doors use a low-density polyurethane foam core (light, but flex under wind load) or a solid single-piece timber core (heavy, but prone to seasonal movement), Endurance's 17-layer laminate cancels the movement out. Adjacent hardwood layers are cross-orientated so the grain of one layer opposes the next — the same principle that keeps a plywood boat hull stable in a Cornish estuary. In practice that means an Endurance door doesn't twist or bow in the wet-then-dry weather cycle we get on the Lizard, the Roseland or the north coast between Bude and St Ives.

The Endurance door range fitted in Cornwall.

We install every current Endurance range: Endurance Classic (heritage 4- and 6-panel styling for period Cornish stone cottages), Endurance Country (grooved plank-effect, ideal for farmhouse and barn conversions), Endurance Urban (flush contemporary panels with bold long-bar handles for modern new-builds), Endurance Alto (their premium flush range with hidden hinges and a genuine flush-fit GRP-into-frame edge) and the Endurance stable door range for coastal holiday lets and family kitchens. Sidelights, midrails and top-lights are configurable across every style at the design stage.

  • Traditional Endurance doors

Classic 4-panel and 6-panel designs with heritage glass — the natural fit for Cornish granite cottages and Georgian townhouses.

  • Cottage Endurance doors

Plank-effect and stable-door styling for period properties in Padstow, St Ives, Fowey and inland moorland villages.

  • Contemporary Endurance doors

Flush and linear-groove designs with long bar handles — a sharp match for modern new-builds around Truro, Newquay and Duchy sites.

  • Stable Endurance doors

Split-opening stable doors with independent top and bottom locking — popular on Cornish farmhouses and coastal holiday lets.

  • Endurance doors with sidelights

Full-width entrances with one or two glazed sidelights — brings daylight into narrow Victorian hallways.

Endurance door security — what you actually get.

Every Endurance door we fit in Cornwall leaves the factory with an Avocet ABS Ultimate 3 Star cylinder — one of only a handful of cylinders on the market rated to TS007 3-star, Sold Secure Diamond and Secured by Design simultaneously. That means it resists snapping, bumping, picking and drilling to the highest independently-tested standard in the UK. Behind the cylinder sits a multipoint locking mechanism (typically Yale or Winkhaus) with hook, deadbolt and roller engagement points that fire simultaneously when you lift the handle. The frame is reinforced with galvanised steel keeps at every locking point, so an intruder can't just kick the keeps out of soft PVC.

Combined with laminated glass units (standard on every glazed panel) and PAS24:2016 doorset-level attack testing, an Endurance door meets the physical security specification demanded by every mainstream UK home insurer, and satisfies Building Regulations Approved Document Q for new-build applications. If you're upgrading from a 1990s or early-2000s uPVC door with a Euro cylinder, the insurance and security jump is enormous — most snapped-cylinder burglaries in Cornwall involve that exact old spec.

Endurance door colours available in Cornwall.

Endurance's core palette runs to more than 20 factory-finished solid colours. The most-installed in Cornwall (by a mile) are Chartwell Green, Anthracite Grey, Duck Egg Blue, Racing Green, French Grey, Rosewood, Cream, jet black and Oxford Blue. Every colour is a factory-applied paint finish over a smooth or lightly-grained GRP skin, protected by a 10-year colour guarantee — no site-painting, no re-coating, no annual maintenance. Dual-colour finishes (a different colour inside and out, for example anthracite outside / white inside) are available across most of the range at no extra cost.

Endurance door prices in Cornwall — what to expect.

For a fully-installed Endurance doorset in Cornwall, budget £1,850–£3,400. The variables that move the price are style (Alto flush ranges cost more than Classic panel designs), glass (obscure, decorative and toughened units add cost), colour (dual-colour and specialist RAL matches add a small premium), hardware (long-bar and stainless-effect hardware costs more than standard chrome), and configuration (sidelights and midrails increase both slab and frame cost). Every price we quote is fixed and written — it includes survey, VAT, fitting, disposal of the old doorset, new frame, cill, threshold, weather seals and 10-year written guarantee. No day-of-fit surprises.

Endurance doors for Cornwall's coast.

If your property is within three miles of the coast — from Bude and Widemouth in the north, down through Newquay, St Austell, Falmouth, the Lizard, Penzance, Mounts Bay and out to Sennen — we upgrade every Endurance install to a marine-grade specification. That means A4-grade stainless-steel hinges (not zinc-plated), stainless letterplate springs, stainless cylinder cams and stainless handle-set fixings. GRP itself is inert in salt air, so unlike aluminium doors you'll never see white pitting or corrosion bloom, and unlike timber you'll never sand and re-varnish. It's a genuinely install-and-forget spec for exposed Cornish frontages.

How our Cornwall Endurance installation works.

The process is deliberately unfancy. (1) We come out for a free on-site survey — usually within 5 working days of your enquiry — measure the opening, discuss style, colour, glass and hardware, and talk through any structural or reveal issues. (2) You get a fixed written quote by email, itemised and VAT-included, with no pressure and no discount-if-you-sign-today theatre. (3) On order, Endurance manufacture the doorset to your spec — typical lead time 4–6 weeks. (4) We fit in a single day, remove and dispose of the old door, foam and seal the new frame properly, adjust the locking mechanism, hand you two keys and register your 10-year manufacturer guarantee.

Endurance vs Solidor vs Hallmark vs uPVC.

Endurance and Solidor are the two premium composite door brands in the UK. Solidor uses a solid single-piece 48mm timber core; Endurance uses a 17-layer engineered laminate. Both are excellent — Solidor has the wider colour range (nearer 30 colours), Endurance has arguably the better core stability for exposed coastal use and a stronger factory-fitted security spec. Hallmark sits below both as a strong heritage-focused option. Any of the three will comfortably outlast a uPVC door — see our composite vs uPVC comparison for the full detail on lifespan, security and thermal performance.

Guarantee and aftercare.

Endurance covers slab, colour, sealed glass units and locking hardware for 10 years from install. On top of that we cover the installation — frame fit, weather seals, threshold and finishing — for a further 10 years in writing. If anything goes wrong in that decade, we're the ones who come back out. Aftercare is minimal: wipe the slab down twice a year, lightly oil the hinges annually, and lubricate the cylinder with graphite (never WD-40) if the key starts to feel sticky.
