Hayle housing — a Victorian industrial town facing the Towans
Hayle is one of Cornwall's few genuine industrial towns and its housing reflects that history: substantial Victorian terraces around Copperhouse and Foundry Square, worker cottages along Penpol Terrace, and modern developments spreading toward Loggans and Connor Downs. The Towans side — Riviere Towans, Phillack, and the properties looking across St Ives Bay — is a different market entirely, higher-value and directly on the beach. The composite doorset spec adjusts across those tiers: standard inland for the town centre, full marine for the beachfront.
Wind-blown sand is the Hayle-specific issue
The Towans are three miles of open dune, and the prevailing wind carries fine sand as well as salt into every front door within half a mile of the beach. Sand pits softwood mouldings quickly and jams cheap uPVC weather seals inside two seasons. Every TR27 install within the sand zone uses A4 stainless fixings, a marine-grade skin, and a compression seal on a triple-brush upstand designed to shed fine particulate. The threshold is drainable stainless-clad. Inland installs toward Connor Downs use the standard inland spec.
Colours that hold up on the Towans
Pale colours reflect the strong summer UV off the sand and hold their finish best: Cream, Off-White, pale grey and Duck Egg Blue lead the beachfront order book. Chartwell Green is a strong secondary. The Victorian terraces around Copperhouse and Foundry Square take heritage colours confidently — Racing Green and darker Anthracite work well against the granite.
A Hayle install day
Foundry Square and the town-centre streets need materials-first drop and re-park. Beachfront installs on Riviere Towans and Phillack take straightforward access outside the summer holiday windows. Every install completes inside a working day with handover paperwork walked through on the doorstep.
For Hayle holiday lets
The Towans holiday-let market is significant and the front-door failure pattern on a rental in this specific location is consistent: sand-jammed seals within two years on a cheap uPVC unit, warped and blistered paint on a timber unit inside three. Composite is the honest recommendation, and the marine spec here isn't a marketing add-on — it's what the environment requires.
