Padstow housing — harbour cottages, second homes, and a very specific spec
Padstow's housing splits sharply into two categories: the tightly-packed harbour cottages around North Quay, South Quay and the narrow streets between, and the higher-value coastal properties along Trevone, Treyarnon and Constantine Bay. The harbour cottages have small, irregular apertures that need templating carefully — nothing is square, doorway heights vary by three inches within a single terrace, and any frame that isn't packed properly to the aperture will show a draught within a year. The coastal properties take standard apertures but carry the full brunt of Atlantic weather. A composite doorset handles both, and the survey is where the specification is decided.
Camel Estuary weather is aggressive salt plus wind funnelling
The Camel Estuary funnels wind and salt spray straight up onto the harbour front, and Trevose Head takes the full-force Atlantic weather without shelter. Every PL28 install uses A4 stainless fixings throughout, a marine-grade skin colour-guaranteed for a decade, and a drainable stainless-clad threshold. On the harbour cottages we set the compression lock to the tighter of its two closure profiles because the wind pressure at the front door face can be genuinely significant.
Padstow's colour palette
The harbour cottages traditionally favour heritage colours — Cream, Chartwell Green, Duck Egg Blue, Racing Green — and those still lead the order book. The higher-value coastal properties on Trevone and Constantine Bay lean cleaner and more contemporary: Off-White, pale grey, and occasionally a bold Poppy Red or Cornflower Blue as a signature door. All finishes are guaranteed for ten years against salt fade.
A Padstow install day
Parking in the harbour streets is tight to non-existent in summer — we schedule harbour-cottage installs for the shoulder season where possible and for early morning drop-off in high season. Materials come off the van, van re-parks outside the harbour, and the install continues on foot. Coastal-property installs on Trevone and Constantine Bay take standard van access and finish inside a working day.
For Padstow second homes and holiday lets
A high proportion of Padstow property is second-home or holiday-let, and the door failure pattern is consistent: a timber door left through a winter without occupation shrinks, cracks, and lets water into the frame. Composite skips that entire risk. Add a keyless smart lock and you can hand over changeovers remotely — significant for owners managing from London or the home counties.
