Where a modern door might carry a single 1200 mm vertical glazing bar, a contemporary door often runs full-height glazing occupying a third or half of the total slab area. Handles scale up correspondingly — 1200 mm to 1800 mm bar handles are standard, mounted vertically. Colour choices lean into architectural greys, matte blacks, deep greens and occasional bold accents like burnt orange or oxblood.

Glazing
Full-height glazing bars, wraparound glazing (a full vertical strip continuing onto adjacent sidelights), and asymmetric glazing arrangements are all common on contemporary installations. Toughened clear glass is the default; sandblasted or fluted patterns work where privacy is needed. Some installations specify tinted or grey-toned glass to reduce solar gain in south-facing frontages.
Hardware
Long brushed-stainless or matte-black bar handles — often 1200 mm to 1800 mm, mounted vertically — are the contemporary signature. Handles are pull-only on the outside with a matching internal pull. Letterplates are frequently omitted on contemporary installations (a wall-mounted letterbox handles post separately) or specified as long slim brushed-stainless slots. Numerals are floating stainless, laser-cut, screw-mounted.
Frame and sidelights
Slim aluminium frames — 60 mm to 70 mm sightlines — are the contemporary standard, in matching-colour finish. Full-height sidelights on one or both sides double the visible aperture; some installations run three vertical panels (sidelight-door-sidelight) as a single composed entrance.

Maintenance
Twice-yearly cleaning with warm soapy water. Brushed stainless-steel handles benefit from an annual light polish with stainless-steel cleaner if the property is within 1 km of the coast — salt residue can dull the finish otherwise.
