Anthracite Grey Composite Doors

RAL 7016 dark grey — the default modern new-build choice, brilliant with white render or grey slate.

Anthracite grey (RAL 7016) is the default modern door colour across the UK and comfortably our most-fitted dark finish in Cornwall. It is a deep, slightly blue-grey that photographs almost black in shade and clearly grey in direct light.

Its popularity is partly practical: it matches the anthracite window systems fitted to most Cornish new-builds since around 2015, so a replacement door in anthracite ties the whole frontage together without changing the windows.

Anthracite Grey in detail

Choosing Anthracite Grey for a Cornish home.

Why anthracite dominates new-build Cornwall

Developers across Truro, Newquay, Bodmin and the St Austell corridor specified anthracite grey windows as a standard for years. If your windows are that colour, an anthracite door is the only finish that will look intentional rather than approximate. Mid-greys and slate greys sit close but not close enough to pass.

Heat and dark finishes

Dark doors absorb more heat than pale ones. On a composite door this matters far less than on uPVC because the GRP skin is bonded to a solid timber or foam core rather than a hollow profile, so there is no meaningful warping risk. On a fully south-facing, unsheltered door we still fit a slightly larger expansion allowance as standard.

Keeping anthracite grey looking new in a coastal climate

Anthracite is excellent at hiding general grime but does show dried salt spray as a pale film. Cornwall's salt-laden air is the single biggest factor in how any door finish ages, so we fit marine-grade stainless hardware as standard within two miles of the coast and recommend a rinse with clean water and a soft cloth every couple of months. No polish, no solvents, no jet wash. Done that way, the colour is covered by a 10-year colour-fastness guarantee and the door itself by a 10-year mechanical guarantee.

Pairs well with: Chrome, satin or black hardware; flush modern and contemporary door styles.
