A town split between naval terrace, waterfront and newer estate
Torpoint's housing history is tied to HMS Raleigh and the naval dockyard traffic across the water in Devonport, and that shows in the terraces around Fore Street and St John's — solid, practical Victorian and early-20th-century terraces built for a working population, with door openings that are generally consistent but occasionally narrower than modern stock sizing assumes.
The waterfront properties nearest the ferry slip and along Cremyll Road get direct exposure off the Tamar, with a different wind pattern to the open Atlantic coast but genuinely strong gusts funnelled up the estuary, especially on a spring tide with wind against tide.
Further out toward Antony Road, Trevol Road and the newer estates at Anderton and Insworke, the housing is more recent and the apertures are standard, which makes those installs the quickest on our books. Wilcove and the lanes down toward Whitsand Bay bring a third character again — smaller, older cottages with more individual door sizes.
