Looe housing — twin harbours, tight streets, and Talland Bay beyond
Looe is really two towns — East Looe and West Looe — bridged across the harbour, and the streets on both sides are tight, sloping and lined with cottages built for fishing families rather than modern vans. Fore Street, The Quay and Buller Street carry apertures that need careful templating; Hannafore and the higher streets have standard sizes. Talland Bay and Polperro to the west are further-value cottage markets where the door specification steps up for the coastal exposure.
South-coast Channel weather — different profile to the north
Looe faces south into the English Channel and the weather here is different in profile to the north-coast Atlantic exposure — less horizontal rain, more sustained salt spray and more concentrated wind pressure at certain compass directions. Every PL13 install uses A4 stainless fixings throughout, a marine-grade skin, and a drainable stainless-clad threshold. The compression seal seats on a triple-brush upstand rated for the wind conditions across Hannafore and Talland Bay.
Looe colour palette
The harbour-side cottages traditionally favour heritage colours — Cream, Chartwell Green, Duck Egg Blue and Racing Green — and those still lead the order book on Fore Street and Buller Street. Higher streets on Barbican Hill and Hannafore take Anthracite Grey confidently. Talland Bay and Polperro cottages lean traditional: Cream, Sage, Duck Egg Blue.
A Looe install day
The harbour streets are pedestrianised in high season and access-restricted at other times. We schedule installs for the parking window at the start of the day and continue on foot once materials are inside. Higher-street and Polperro installs take longer drives from the yard but complete inside a working day. Handover paperwork walked through on the doorstep.
For Looe and Polperro holiday-let owners
Looe and Polperro carry significant holiday-let volume, and the front-door failure pattern on a tired timber door in this environment is consistent: swollen top rail by year three, corroded lock keeps by year five, full replacement inside a decade. Composite skips that entire lifecycle. A keyless smart lock lets you hand over changeovers remotely — meaningful if the property is managed from further afield.
