Fowey housing — one of Cornwall's tightest and most historic streetscapes
Fowey has one of the tightest and most vertical street patterns of any Cornish town. Fore Street and Passage Street are effectively pedestrian alleys, and the cottages that line them have apertures no two of which are the same. Doorway heights vary by five inches across a single terrace, jambs are rarely plumb, and the granite lintels are as-set from the 1600s in some cases. Templating is not optional — it's what makes the install work. Higher-value properties on The Esplanade and Readymoney take standard modern apertures but carry the full brunt of Channel weather.
Channel salt exposure, plus a very specific wind funnel
Fowey sits inside a natural estuary that funnels wind and salt straight up onto the harbour front. Every PL23 install uses A4 stainless fixings throughout, a marine-grade skin colour-guaranteed for a decade, and a drainable stainless-clad threshold. The compression lock is set to the tighter of its two closure profiles because the wind pressure on the door face during a south-westerly is genuine. Nothing in this spec is optional or an upgrade.
Colours that suit Fowey's setting
Fowey's historic streets carry conservation-area weight and the colour palette leans traditional — Cream, Chartwell Green, Racing Green, Duck Egg Blue all read beautifully against the whitewashed cob and rendered fronts. Higher-value Esplanade properties lean cleaner and more contemporary: Off-White, pale grey, and occasionally a bold Poppy Red as a signature.
A Fowey install day
Fore Street and Passage Street are pedestrianised or effectively so — we schedule the install for the parking window at the start of the day and continue on foot with materials once the van has re-parked. Larger properties on The Esplanade and Readymoney take standard access. Every install completes inside a working day with paperwork handover on the doorstep.
For Fowey listed and conservation-area properties
A significant proportion of Fowey's historic streetscape is listed or conservation-area — please tell us at first contact if that applies to your property. Our heritage composite range is designed to sit sympathetically in that context and we can supply drawings for any consent conversation. Fowey's weather and street pattern make composite the specification that both fits and lasts.
