Reading the Snowdon's proportions on a real frontage
The 6-aperture layout on the Snowdon was clearly drawn for a specific kind of hallway: one that needs a defined amount of daylight rather than either none or all of it. That makes it a strong fit for barn conversions, and we fit it regularly on streets in Padstow where the original Victorian doors would have carried a similar glazed proportion before they were replaced with plain uPVC decades ago. Against cob it holds its own without needing a bold colour to do the work. We would always recommend seeing the Snowdon against a working sample of your chosen colour before ordering, since the panel's proportions change how a colour reads compared with a plainer design.
Getting the colour right on the Snowdon
The Snowdon's 6-aperture glazing pattern photographs well in Irish Oak, where the frame lines around the glass stay crisp rather than disappearing into the panel colour. Grey is the other finish we would put in front of a customer choosing this design — it is muted enough that the glazing, not the door colour, is the first thing you notice on the full-glazed face. For a bolder frontage, White gives the same proportions a completely different character without changing the layout at all. Whichever you choose, ask to see a physical sample against your own cob; screens flatten differences that are obvious in daylight. Dual-colour finishing — a different shade inside and out — is available on the Snowdon at no extra cost, which is worth considering if the hallway decor doesn't match the exterior palette you want.
Finishing touches on the Snowdon
In the Snowdon's apertures, obscure glass such as Neo keeps the hallway private while still passing daylight, and is what we fit as standard unless a customer asks otherwise. Jewel is the better choice where the door faces a garden or a quiet lane rather than the street, since more of the pattern reads as clear. Hardware-wise, a chrome or satin handle set suits the 6-aperture rhythm on a more contemporary elevation, while pewter or black points it towards period streets in Padstow. Our CERTASS-registered fitters install the Snowdon in a single day in almost every case, including full disposal of the old door and frame.
