That proportion of glass is deliberate rather than decorative: a small run of apertures like this lets light reach a hallway without turning the door into a window. Reading the Godwin's proportions on a real frontage
The 9-aperture layout on the Godwin was clearly drawn for a specific kind of hallway: one that needs a defined amount of daylight rather than either none or all of it. That makes it a strong fit for family front doors, and we fit it regularly on streets in Falmouth where the original Victorian doors would have carried a similar glazed proportion before they were replaced with plain uPVC decades ago. Against limewashed render it holds its own without needing a bold colour to do the work. We would always recommend seeing the Godwin against a working sample of your chosen colour before ordering, since the panel's proportions change how a colour reads compared with a plainer design.
Finishing the Godwin in the right shade
The Godwin's 9-aperture glazing pattern photographs well in Green, where the frame lines around the glass stay crisp rather than disappearing into the panel colour. Rich Red is the other finish we would put in front of a customer choosing this design — it is muted enough that the glazing, not the door colour, is the first thing you notice on the half-glazed face. For a bolder frontage, Anthracite Grey gives the same proportions a completely different character without changing the layout at all. Whichever you choose, ask to see a physical sample against your own limewashed render; screens flatten differences that are obvious in daylight. Woodgrain finishes such as Golden Oak and Irish Oak are available on the Godwin as well as the flat colours, and tend to suit this panel shape particularly well on older properties.
Getting the glazing and hardware right
In the Godwin's apertures, obscure glass such as Florida keeps the hallway private while still passing daylight, and is what we fit as standard unless a customer asks otherwise. Harmony is the better choice where the door faces a garden or a quiet lane rather than the street, since more of the pattern reads as clear. Hardware-wise, a chrome or satin handle set suits the 9-aperture rhythm on a more contemporary elevation, while pewter or black points it towards period streets in Falmouth.
