Full-glazed composite doors carry glazing across most of the door area — often full-height, sometimes with matching full-height sidelights that extend the glazed composition across the whole entrance opening. They flood entrance halls with daylight and give contemporary and coastal homes the light-first architectural reading that architect-designed properties often demand.
We install full-glazed composite doors on architect-designed self-builds, coastal contemporary homes, garden studios and outbuildings, and the growing number of new-build properties across Cornwall that specify light-first entrance compositions.

Full Glazed Composite Doors: the detail.
Design characteristics
A full-glazed composite door carries glazing across 50-70% of the door area — significantly more than a half-glazed door. Common configurations include full-height glazing running the door's full length with a slim solid stile down one edge (typical modern arrangement), full-width horizontal glazing across the upper two-thirds with a solid lower quarter, or full-height glazing on the door with matching full-height sidelights either side. The solid GRP framework around the glazing carries all the security hardware — cylinder, multi-point lock, hinges — so the glass area does not compromise security.
Where full-glazed doors work
Architect-designed self-builds along the north Cornwall coast, contemporary coastal homes on the Roseland peninsula, rear entrances opening onto gardens, glazed garden studios and outbuildings, and new-build estates with contemporary specification. Full-glazed doors sit best where the wider architecture prioritises light — large picture windows, standing plate glass, roof lanterns. On traditional Cornish properties they read as over-glazed and out of period.
Glass specifications
All glazing toughened to BS 6206 Class A. Standard specification is 28-32mm sealed triple-glazed units (4mm outer, 12-16mm argon cavity, 4mm middle, 12-16mm argon cavity, 4mm inner with soft-coat low-E coating) rather than double-glazed. The triple-glazed specification keeps whole-door U-values under 1.4 W/m²K even with 70% glass area, which is what makes full-glazed doors compliant for new-build applications.
Privacy options
Full-glazed doors accept the same glazing library as half-glazed doors — sandblasted, obscure, decorative fluted, tinted and coloured glass. Where privacy is a concern, sandblasted or fluted glass across the full glazed area maintains daylight transmission while blocking direct visibility. Clear glass suits rear-of-property installations where privacy is not a concern.
Security
PAS24:2022 accreditation as standard. The solid GRP framework carries the cylinder, multi-point lock and hinges; the glazing is toughened and impact-resistant. Full-glazed doors achieve the same PAS24 impact-test threshold as fully-solid doors. Where enhanced security is required, we specify laminated toughened units (glass bonded to a plastic interlayer that holds fragments in place after impact) — the specification typically used for retail shop-fronts and higher-security residential installations.
Colour
Because the glazed area dominates a full-glazed door visually, the colour of the surrounding GRP framework is what carries the design statement. Anthracite Grey, matte black, basalt and painted whites are the dominant palette. Bright colours are rare on full-glazed doors — the reduced solid area makes any strong colour feel disproportionate.
Frames and thresholds
Slim thermally-broken aluminium frames give the best appearance — the visible frame width around the glass is minimised, extending the glazed reading beyond the door leaf itself. Threshold detailing on full-glazed doors receives careful attention because the door often sits within a wider glazed composition and the threshold reads as a horizontal line across the whole entrance.
Hardware
Brushed stainless-steel or matte-black bar handles are standard. Handle sizing is usually oversized on full-glazed doors — 1200-1800 mm vertical bars — to give visual weight against the large glazed area. Letterplates are frequently omitted (a wall-mounted letterbox handles post) or specified as long slim brushed-stainless slots in the solid stile.
Energy performance
1.2 to 1.4 W/m²K U-value with triple-glazed specification — meeting the 1.4 requirement for new-build front doors under Approved Document L. Double-glazed specification only achieves 1.5-1.7 U-value across large glazed areas, so triple-glazed is standard on full-glazed installations.
Lead-time and cost
6 to 8 weeks for standard full-glazed specification. Bespoke oversized with matching sidelights: 8 to 10 weeks. Cost range £2,195 to £3,295 for door-only; £2,995 to £4,995 for door-plus-sidelights compositions.
