Because sage has grey in it, it never fights granite. Where a saturated green sits on top of stone, sage sits within it. The effect is understated from the street and much softer in photographs, which suits period properties in conservation areas.
Chartwell is lighter, mintier and cooler; sage is greyer and warmer. Chartwell reads as a heritage paint colour, sage as a natural one. On a whitewashed cottage chartwell gives more contrast; on grey stone sage blends more comfortably.
