Mount Hawke: composite doors for a modern village between St Agnes and the A30

By Cornwall Composite Doors · 5 October 1969 · 4 min read

Mount Hawke's bungalows and later estate housing suit a straightforward, contemporary composite door specification.

An inland village with a coastal accent

Mount Hawke sits just inland of St Agnes, close enough to smell the sea air on a westerly but sheltered from the direct battering that Trevaunance Cove and the cliffs take a mile or so away. TR4 housing here is largely twentieth-century — bungalows, dormer bungalows and estate semis built from the 1950s onward, with relatively few of the granite cottages you'd find in St Agnes itself. That means door openings tend to be standard sizes, which makes for a straightforward, competitively priced installation compared to some of the older harbour towns nearby.

What we're usually asked to fix

The most common job in Mount Hawke is replacing a dated 1980s or 90s uPVC door — often in a wood-effect finish that's gone patchy and brittle with age — with something that matches a more recently updated frontage. A lot of Mount Hawke homeowners have already had grey or anthracite windows fitted and are left with an old white or golden-oak door that now looks out of place. That mismatch is the single biggest driver of enquiries we get from this village.

The colours that dominate here

Anthracite grey is comfortably the most requested finish in Mount Hawke, simply because it matches the grey window frames so many properties already have. Chartwell Green and black both do well on the slightly older bungalows towards the village centre, particularly where the render has a warmer, creamier tone that a stark white door would clash with.

Quick turnaround given the housing type

Because Mount Hawke's door openings are mostly standard sizes rather than the bespoke shapes we deal with in older coastal cottages, lead times here tend to be shorter, and we can often template and confirm a specification in a single visit. We cover Mount Hawke on the same round as St Agnes, Truro and Perranporth.
