In Marazion, the door is often the first thing a visitor notices after the Mount itself — it needs to be as sharp as the view demands.
Small town, huge visual pressure
Marazion is tiny by population but enormous in profile: every cottage that looks out over the causeway to St Michael's Mount is effectively on permanent display, whether the owner wants it or not. TR17 properties range from old fishermen's and quarrymen's cottages close to the marsh and the front, to slightly later Victorian terraces set back from the seafront. A tired, chalky timber door or a yellowed 1990s uPVC front lets the whole building down in a way it wouldn't in a less photographed town. A well-specified composite door, by contrast, becomes part of what makes the frontage work as a whole.
Weather off Mount's Bay
Marazion faces directly into Mount's Bay, and although it's more sheltered than the fully open coast further west towards Praa Sands, it still gets a steady dose of salt-laden wind, particularly on spring tides and during winter south-easterlies. Cottages closest to the marsh and seafront benefit from stainless steel hinges and hardware rather than standard fittings, and we specify that as default within a couple of streets of the water here.
Colour choices that respect the setting
Chartwell Green, cream and duck egg dominate our order book in Marazion, all colours that sit comfortably against limewashed render and granite without competing with the view beyond. Black works well on the taller Victorian terraces set back from the front, particularly with a polished chrome or pewter furniture set. We steer people away from very dark navy or pure white on the smaller seafront cottages, where the contrast can look harsh against such an open outlook.
