Helston: Serving the Gateway to the Lizard

By Cornwall Composite Doors · 11 August 1969 · 4 min read

As the last town before the Lizard peninsula's most exposed conditions, Helston's homes span everything from sheltered streets to serious coastal weather.

A town with more variation than it first appears

Helston itself is reasonably sheltered compared with the Lizard peninsula it serves, but the town's wider catchment — through to Porthleven, Mullion and beyond — covers some of the most exposed coastline in Cornwall. We treat Helston-town installs and Lizard-peninsula installs quite differently at survey stage, since specifying the full marine kit on a sheltered Helston terrace would be overkill.

Helston town centre: heritage styling matters

Around Coinagehall Street and the town's older core, granite and painted rendered frontages call for traditional or cottage-style composite doors in heritage colours — Chartwell Green and Duck Egg Blue are consistently the most requested here, both suiting the town's period character without looking imposed.

Out toward Porthleven and the Lizard

As soon as a Helston-area survey moves toward the coast — Porthleven, Mullion, the Lizard itself — the specification changes to full marine grade: stainless fixings throughout, uprated seals, and a properly drained threshold. It's the same care we'd take on any front-line coastal property.

Covering Helston's full catchment

We survey and fit across the whole TR12/TR13 area from Helston town outward, with the specification tailored to actual exposure at each property rather than a blanket assumption based on postcode alone.
