Overview

'Euro cylinder' and 'lock barrel' are the same thing - the removable brass unit at the heart of every composite door lock. Replacement is quick, but sizing matters: too long and it's a snap risk, too short and it won't engage the gearbox.

Symptoms

  • Any need to change locks - new home, lost key, upgrade.
  • Cylinder damaged or stiff.
  • Insurance requiring 3-star spec.

Common causes

  • Wear, weather, attack or lifecycle end.

When to call a professional

  • Wrong-length cylinders are the #1 lock snapping vulnerability - get sizing right.

Prevention

  • Fit anti-snap 3-star to TS007:2014.
  • Ensure cylinder sits flush.
