Lock Issues

Anti-Snap Lock Upgrade

Anti-snap lock upgrade - why lock snapping is the burglar's method of choice and why a 3-star cylinder ends the risk.

Written by Cornwall Composite DoorsReviewed by Cornwall Composite Doors installersLast updated July 20262 minute read

Overview

Lock snapping is the most common forced-entry method in the UK - takes under 30 seconds with basic tools. A TS007 3-star or Sold Secure Diamond cylinder has sacrificial snap sections and a hardened core that make the attack fail. Every door we fit gets one as standard.

Symptoms

  • Your current cylinder is unmarked or 1-star.
  • Cylinder protrudes more than 2mm from the handle.
  • Insurance is asking for 3-star spec.
  • Recent burglaries locally.

Common causes

  • Standard cylinders were the default on many pre-2018 composite doors.

When to call a professional

  • Any door without a 3-star cylinder - same-day upgrade available.

Prevention

  • Combine 3-star cylinder with a 2-star security handle for full attack resistance.
