A town that straddles two different climates
Bodmin's town centre — around the old jail and Fore Street — is sheltered by comparison with the exposed farmhouses and smallholdings scattered across the edge of Bodmin Moor. We treat these differently at survey stage. A terraced Georgian townhouse in the centre needs a door that respects its proportions and stone or rendered frontage; a moorland property a mile or two out needs the same door built to cope with driving rain that comes sideways for days at a time. Composite handles both, but the seal detail and threshold spec change with the address.
What moorland exposure does to an ordinary door
We regularly survey doors on Bodmin's outskirts — toward Cardinham, Blisland and the moor road — that have failed years before their time: swollen bottom rails, rotten cills, hinges rusted solid. The wind on open moorland doesn't need to be a storm to cause damage; it's the relentless, everyday exposure that does it. A composite doorset with a foam-insulated core, a thermally broken threshold and stainless fixings simply doesn't have the vulnerable points a timber door does.

Around Lanhydrock House and the older parts of town, granite lintels and painted rendered fronts are the norm, and a traditional six-panel composite door with a stained-glass fanlight is by far our most common install here. Chartwell Green and Rustic Red both read well against Bodmin's stone; for a Georgian frontage we'll often suggest Black or French Navy with brass furniture instead.
